Winter time is cold and flu season – but why?
It typically begins in October and peaks between December and February (in the northern hemisphere)
- Cold air helps the flu virus to survive longer outside of the human body.
- The virus does a better job of circulating in low humidity.
- In addition cold, dry air leaves your mucus membranes in a more vulnerable condition.
- We also spend more time indoors (in dry air) and have closer contact with each other, which makes it easier for the virus to spread.
